Breath-taking scenery;  Cosmos lining the roads flanked by moss-green mountains, the beautiful, winding Bushmans River – reminds one of the incredible power and beauty of our Universe.

We stayed at the Giants Castle Reserve.   This is a scenic mountain wonderland tucked into the central region of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park and it takes its name from the massive ramparts of rock rising above the lodge. The silhouette of the peaks and escarpment against the sky resemble the profile of a sleeping giant.

The lodges were very 70’s.  Hideous animal print curtains and bedding and quite dark but they were clean and functional and the showers were great.

Having said that – the setting more than made up for whatever the cottages lacked in character.  Little bit pricey too tho.

The Bushman Paintings are well worth the hike to go and see.
